Everyone can take a photo, but not everyone is a photographer. What makes the difference is the keen eye for detail and beauty.
Hello there, I am Jan Gouws, a professional photographer with more than 35 year’s experience in photography. I started out as a forensic photographer and the passion to be behind the camera surfaced. I decided to not let all the experience go to waste and started my photography business after a long hiatus away from officialdom. I have a keen eye for detail and believe in capturing natural occurrences. Be it studio shoots, babies or just a landscape. The best people photos are taken when people are in a relaxed natural surrounding without special posing. I am convinced that just having my camera and flash available caters for 90 percent of great photos.
Obviously, serious photography such as model shoots, portraiture etc. requires a formal setting and that is when all the equipment that you believe all photographers carry around as normal come out. This assists in capturing the beauty of the subjects being photographed.

Models
This type of photography usually takes place at an outdoor location or in a studio. Model photography is quite varied from swimsuits to formal gowns, from an informal setting to a formal setting. It is dependent on the requirement of the model and assignments received from clients.
Landscapes
Landscape photography is mainly by assignments for advertisements or it may be what the photogrpaher may feel like capturing. I enjoy landscape photography with the aim of caputing a time and place for future use in advertisements
Studio Shoots
Any photography can be done in a studio. It normally takes place with artificial lighting and various pieces of equipment to bring the glamour of the subject to the fore. When thinking of studio shoot, people usually think about people being photographed. This is however not true. Items such as food stuffs, advertisement photos, products etc. are photographed using a studio environment. A studio is not necessarily a stuffy room but is a broad term to basically describe formal photography
Portraiture
This is normally formal photography but not limited to a studio setting. I enjoy doing portraiture photography in peoples homes or in familiar surroundings that they have a special affinity for. Portraiture photography is there to capture memories for the future.
Babies
Babies may be one of the more difficult subjects to photograph depending on the age. I believe in doing such photography in the comfort of your home in a settled environment where the baby is relaxed. This also includes boudoir photography
